About the formats
SVG
SVG is a vector format: logos and icons described as shapes rather than pixels, scalable to any size without quality loss. Many contexts require raster images though — social media, documents, older apps — which is where an SVG-to-PNG or JPG conversion comes in.
JPG
JPG (JPEG) is the most widely supported image format ever made — every camera, phone, program and website accepts it. It compresses photos efficiently but doesn't support transparency, and each re-save at low quality degrades the image a little more.
Frequently asked questions
At what resolution is my SVG rendered?
At the size declared inside the SVG file, or 1024px if none is set. Use the max-width field to render at exactly the size you need — vectors scale without quality loss.
Does converting to JPG reduce image quality?
JPG uses lossy compression, but at a high quality setting the difference is invisible to the eye — and the file gets much smaller, ideal for photos and sharing. Pixloc lets you set the quality with a slider and adds a white background, since JPG has no transparency.
Are my files really private?
